Black avoids the loss (by interference) of relevant access to g5 which is on the other side of thus determined critical square. Guess my answer.

Some weeks ago Peter Schmidt found, that the bPa5 in the "wizardly" example by Fadil is not necessary:

(= 5+5 )


Now the cook 1.Ke6 Kb4 2.Kd5 R:d6# is impossible.

BTW, in the position with bPa5 the wSf2 can be replaced with wPf3.

I commented this problem a couple of weeks ago in PDB: "bSe5 can be replaced with bPe5 and wSf2 can be replaced with wPf3."
It is easy these days, with the help of computer, to improve old problems 😀 .
