Computer results have evaded my eye or the old brain hasn't registered. I see there's a 2012 Grondijs book "The errors of the Calabrois" and surely this has been reported in the usually suspected sources. | | (2) Posted by Hauke Reddmann [Friday, Nov 25, 2022 09:11] | e1/e8 (Stockfish +2) or g1/b8 (0.0)? | | (3) Posted by Alain Villeneuve [Friday, Nov 25, 2022 09:28] | I don't know the ultimate truth because the tablebases with 8 units are not available !
But here is something for thought (Maizelis updated) :

It's after all so famous, has been studied since Greco. I have no understanding at all about the size of the undertaking - does e.g. the existence of the seven piece pawn only TB help in a decisive way? Does the fact that it's pawns only make it impractical or impossible for now? If I undertand correctly some eight piece TBs exist. (I don't even know which questions to ask.)
Thanks Alain, worth studying. | | No more posts |
