(As usual, needs Monty Python 1.0 or better for install.)

"You can look back on a great career in problem chess, even
a very prevalent letter theme is named by you. But now you
are 65 and will go into retirement (too bad, even as we
write 1988 you won two first prizes). What will you do next -
play a bit of OTB chess? Become Champion of Latvia a
ninth time?"
"Young man, I'm a bit too old now for cerebral fitness!
But I indeed have a big plan - I will scale the two

(Actually, the gag works with almost any Latvian composer...)

For those who wish to test their cerebral fitness, I recommend spending one night in Bangkok.

James, you are still too young, I assert you, "cerebral" usually isn't

So is it something like Latvian composer famous for problems with multiple solutions? E.g. helpmates? Just guessing

I am not at all sure about how the Bangkok musical reference fits in

No, it's Alfreds Dombrovskis (everywhere outside Latvia, Alfred Dombrovski.
Or Dombrovskis after all? :-) Is a Latvian in the house to explain which
-s are for real? Dr. Doom maybe? :-)

Is there any good chess in Chess the Musical?

IME in English, that problemist and the theme are both spelt Dombrovskis with the s. Leaving that final s off would make it look as if he were Slavic, not Latvian. It's the same when English texts refer to other Latvians, too, e.g. composer Peteris Vasks.
