Josef Kupper Memorial Composing Tourney

In memory of our late honorary member Josef Kupper (10.3.1932—5.6.2017) the Swiss Association for Chess Composition announces a memorial tournament for chess problems in two categories open for all composers.

Category A: Moremovers with 4-6 moves in Meredith form (8-12 pieces)
Judge: Ralf Krätschmer (Germany)

Category B: Helpmates with exactly 3 moves and at least 2 solutions. Therefore no problems with "H#3.5" respectively "White begins" and in case of position changes (a, b etc.) every position must have 2 solutions.
Judge: Norbert Geissler (Germany)

Limitations: 2 compositions per composer and category at most. Attributable consideration of joint compositions
Deadline for submissions: Latest on 15 June, 2019 per e-mail to

Prizes: Money and book prizes
Prize giving ceremony: On the occasion of the prize giving ceremony of the Josef Kupper memorial tournament of Schachgesellschaft Zürich in over the board chess (7 rounds on 14.-18.8.2019) on 18 August 2019 in Hotel Spirgarten Best Western in Zurich-Altstetten

Awards of Josef Kupper Memorial Composing Tourney
We have received a total of 83 compositions of 41 composers from 16 countries.
The awards are published on the website of the Swiss Association for Chess Composition:

Objections against the awards must be sent to the tournament director Roland Ott to by email to by 18 November 2019 latest.
Thank you to all composers for their compositions and to the judges for their great work judging this memorial tournament in memory of deceased honorary member Josef Kupper (10.3.1932 - 5.6.2017).
And many thanks especially to the Schachgesellschaft Zurich for sponsoring the majority of the money prizes for this composing tourney!

Unfortunately the name of he first composer of problem no.38 was wrong in the awards document. This helpmate was composed by Mykola Kolesnik co-authored with Valery Semenenko.
The award on the website has been corrected:
