FIDE with the participation of WFCC announces 10th FIDE World Cup in composing.

I read the post of Mr. Fomichev before it was deleted and disappearing of the post (of course) does not mean that disappeared the opinion. I think that especially now, when blanket or selective bans for Russian and Belarussian composers and/or solvers are considered, every magazine editor (e.g.) should have possibility to see it (and react, if he/she would consider it as appropriate). The post was only testimony about Mr. Fomichev.

I didn't read the post of Mr. Fomichev but can read the one by Michal.
Here are informations I intended to post on the article "A message...", but this article seems to be "closed".
The french magazine Phénix and the dutch magazine Probleemblad will go on publishing problems by Russian and Belarussian composers.
These informations come from Laurent Riguet, chief editor of Phénix, and the dutch meeting of Nunspeet I attended last week-end.

One composition was not in the award because of two queens. Apparently the judge doesn't like promoted force. F22 (2nd HM) has an obviously promoted Bd6.

Decided by WFCC:
"Promoted pieces in the diagram position are allowed only if they are substitutes for captured pieces of the same type."

Well, the judge has to decide this, but in my opinion is there still a difference between the use of two Queens and the use of standard OTB material.

Very sorry for the poor composer whose work was rejected.
If the individual judge's assessment was "Well - the achievement doesn't sufficiently justify the non-standard material" that's perfectly fair. But it's horrible to see that problems with non-standard material would be officially rejected by WFCC without any consideration of their possible content. If non-standard material is universally viewed as artistically awful, then there is no need for an WFCC rule to prevent it.

One of the most rejected was Gustave Courbet (see his work today at the Paris Musee D'Orsay). He wrote in 1855:

In selfmates is it ok to have a keymove that blocks a white king flight? Is it equal to a flight taking key in direct mates?

A well known case is P0507214; Macleod in Caissa's Schloßbewohner 1, Unsung Heroes:
"... at the cost of an obtrusive bishop, for which reason it was placed last, in spite of the fact that another problem with an obtrusive piece was placed first in a different section."
In fact there were several other problems with obtrusive pieces in the Friendship Match that got good placements. Different judges, yes, but surely in that tourney a common line should have been observed.

The first prize winner has such a key. However none of the three mates use the king-block on b1, which is probably why the judge ignored it

Now I see the position and you're right, the initial flight blocking has no relevance.
But very often in these bohemian style compositions White will use his own pieces to imprison his king, so it wouldn't really matter whether it happened on the first or later moves.
I was thinking more about shorter problems, 2 or 3 movers where the key takes on greater significance - then the weakness would be apparent.
