Is it a task?

I recollected this old problem of mine showing a partial knightwheel, only six variations. But I cant remember seeing any other example where all the thematic mates cover a king flight also (in this case caused by the departure of the knight). Are 7 or 8 variations possible?

A very neat idea! Congrats on finding 6 variations!

Oyvey! 1...Sf6 2.Txf6/Sd8 is dualistic, right?

Black would be first to capture the opponent's King 1...Sf6 2.Sd8 Sxh5 :-)

This earlier Mansfield has the flight given by a knight unblock.

Of the two, Chesslife prize winner is the better one with nice flight giving key and changed mate. The earlier one of course has an additional pinmate. But both suffer from the drawback of at least four variations (5 in the earlier one) being captures of the thematic knight!

@Nikola: Indeed. I should not even bother to comment on a day
where I have to get up at six o'clock in the morning for the
benefit of our chess youth. I knew that Mansfield wouldn't
let such a dual slip :-)

Good point made by Seetharaman. We still haven't seen other examples with 6 variations without capturing of thematic S.

Daniel Papack sends this excellent #2 by Ellerman, full of battery play and line openings. It has only three captures of the thematic knight but has repeated mate 2.d7 after both Sd4/Sg7.
