Something bad to wish a good year. Yes, the Pe3 can be removed without issues. And there is not much artistical value. But I couldn't come up with anything better in a few minutes. :-)

Pet Sematary. That was easy. :-)

P.S. I never heard of a fairy chess variant with undead pieces.
(Could we interpret the just announced "Circe Memory" as such?
Hmmm, any piece captured by an undead one must become undead
itself, to fit the mythology. Needs finetuning :-)

"Zombie chess" is indeed a catchy name !!

How about "Ghost Chess" and "Haunted Chess"? :)

All the best in 2012!

@ Bojan: NOW I heard of it :-)
I looked it up, but it's the wrong kind of undead. :P
Anyone want to invent the rules of zombie chess,
because we have sooo scarce a number of chess
variants? (Captured zombie is killed, a piece captured
by a zombie turns into a zombie, zombies always keep
their move direction, now you just have to work out
the rest of the details.)

Becoming interesting :) But should there not be some distinction between capture by normal pieces and Zombies. Perhaps we can designate some pieces in the diagram as Zombie pieces, rather than having Zombie chess !! How about having the rule that any chessman (of either color) landing on an adjacent square [of Zombie pieces] becomes Zombies !! (captures being normal).

"[of Zombie pieces]".... since added by me.

I was also thinking more or less around the suggestions of
Seetharaman, especially pieces marked Zombie.
