Nice, but geometrically a setting with the black queen on h3 and the white knight on e3 is better. To add interest, a second solution will be great, one with a mate on g7 is a possibility with the black queen making a maneuver like Qa8 - Qa1 - Qg7 (need to reposition the queen...)

Solution is :-

1.Sf7 Qa3 2.Kg5 Qf8 3.Sh6+ Qxh6

(= 3+3 )

S#3 (Maximummer)

1. Sg4 Qa3 2. Kg5 Qf8 3. Sh6+ Qxh6

How about ?

(= 3+3 )

S#3 (Maximummer)

For solving, with a set-play:

Yes, this gives you two nice solutions. I composed a good number of selfmate maximumers during my early years of composing, trying to get some complexity and harmony between the two solutions, or set play & solution.

Nikola, nice promotions here. Set play settings are always pleasing!

Thanks, at least it won me a bottle of Metaxa (HM, Jesi 2011).

That was a lovely problem Nikola. I couldn't solve the set play even after a long time. Both solutions excellent!

I know I've published a s# blackmaximummer in Strategems several years ago (probably somewhere begin 2000's), but it's not in any of the databases. Does anyone have old issues of SG who can find it? I have no idea anymore what that composition was about....
