DELIA-25 JT University Sports Club Brasov and Romanian Chess Composition Committee are organizing Delia-25 JT, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Romanian lady composer Delia-Monica Duca.
The theme proposed by judge Paz Einat, International Arbiter, is:
Required are orthodox twomovers showing [edit February 20th, 2011] any kind of correspondence between white and black in terms of the specific and well-defined elements, or themes, used in the solution. “Solution” is meant to include possible set and tries. Any imaginative but well defined correspondence will be accepted as thematic.
In example 1 the theme is shown within the solution: two black defenses are promotions and in three other variations there are white promotion mates.
In examples 2 and 3 the theme is shown between try and solution: in example 2 the theme is presented between the two tries (white half-pin) and solution (black half-pin) and in example 3 we see again white half-pin in the two tries and black half-pin in the solution.

What do you mean ??? |

Just a small joke... I never heard of the Monkey theme before. |

It is, I must say, the first time I can see such a strange "joke" here.
I don't know who is the monkey and who is the donkey.
About "Monkey theme" : the first time I could hear of it was, if I remember well, by Ivunin, at the Belfort congress in 1994.
The expression, as I understood it, means something like " A move is answered by a similar (equipollent) move". I found it clear, straightforward and effective, that's why I used it here without further explanation. |

Jacques,
Thanks for the clarification on the Monkey theme.
As for the Donkey, I had in mind the famous "Trick Donkeys" puzzle of Sam Loyd, whose book (by White) I had browsed lately. |

BTW, it seems to me that the theme allows many possibilities in many genres and I wonder how many problems were composed. I tried to look in Winchloe but it seems that the theme is not listed there. I looked for "singe", is this the right word for monkey in French? |

Who knows what you have in mind ?
if you are interested in translations :
'monkey' is 'singe' in french, 'kof' in hebrew (קוף)
'donkey' is 'ane' in french, 'h'amor' in hebrew (חמור).
about wchloe, you can search on "coups équipollents", but I don't know if it is automatically recognized. You can search also "Loshinsky" |

I have in mind a good JT tourney for Delia !!
I figured it out yesterday, indeed "Coup equipollents". A total of 84 problems in many genres but only 10 two-movers, so there's plenty of room to compose |

You seem to have many things in mind, and what you write is not clear. |

Jacques, I hope you do not imply to things not related to this thread.
I believe that "Coup equipollents" is the term to look for problems showing the monkey theme you described.
I looked in WinChloe using "Coup equipollents" in the "themes" under "Query". This resulted in a total of 84 problem which show this theme. Of these there were 10 orthodox two-movers. This suggests that there is room for more Monkey theme ideas at least in orthodox two-movers. |

Can you say what about ?? |

The "little joke" you used is mainly offensive.
The "donkey trick" has nothing with chess, and of course is not a theme. |
|
(18) Posted by Paz Einat [Wednesday, Mar 23, 2011 16:28] |
Jacques, I had no offensive meaning whatsoever. None at all. If you would have known me slightly better you would surely know that I am not this type of person. |

Paz, I know you well : I met you several times, I had with you also long telephonic conversations, I can also read what you write here (several posts) and in some other places. For sure one thing can be said : you are not that kind of persons who does not understand what he says or writes. |
