And a happy 2#-year :-) HR, Original for MPF
(= 7+6 )
OK, the solution is obvious, so it's pointless to NOT
spoiler it: 1.d4 (2. Qg4) Sf6 2.Bg5#, 1...Rxd4 2.Qxd4#, 1...Rg6 2.Qh5#.
The real question is: What's the point of this manure? I can compose
better than that, y'know...Well, maybe Siegfried will find out. Also
Geir Sune if he has to play me OTB somewhen. :-)
A nice 2014 to anyone,

1.d4 Sf6 2.Bg5. Is that the Trompowsky attack? |

Yup. Nailed it. Occurs in at least 1/3 of my games, the other 1/3 being
1.d4 d5 2.Bf4. (And since the rest of 2014 is used up now,
also a happy 2015 :-) |

This reminds me of my #4 I have shown to you about a year ago.
(= 11+6 )
Solution
1.d4 e6 2.c4 (3.d5+ exd5 4.cxd5#) 2…d5 3.g3 dxc4 4.Bg2# 3....e5 4.cxd5#

The Trompovsky is somewhat awkward to handle in a chess problem ;)
Does the world wait for a theme tourney?
P.S. I am not 100% sure if 4.cxd5 is the best way in the catalan after 3....e5 ;) |

@Sven - yup, our Lüneburg sessions were the
creative impetus for this one and son of yup,
the fact that d4 is needed for Bg5 makes it
awkward. No answer to your theory question
though since I know nothing from theory.

You don't need to know theory to realize that 4.cxd5 is not a very good move in that position. Also, I have a feeling 3...e5 is not Black's best move. :)
But well done to make four sensible opening moves in the other line! |

I have played dozens of Catalan games with none of them featuring 3.-e5.
Next time I have this position I will ask my opponent why he did not play this move and ask him if he feared that I would mate him after 4. cxd5 or if there is another subtle reason ;) |
