Ernest Pogosyants
Prapor Junosti 1976
(= 3+1 )
1.Kd6+ Kc8 2.Bb7+! Kxb7 3.Kd7
Johannessen - Rivera
Varna Olympiad 1962
(= 6+5 )
1.b6+! axb6 2.a7 Kb7 3.c6+ Kxa7 4.c7, and Black resigned instead of continuing with 4...Kb7 5.Kd6+ Kc8 6.Bb7+! Kxb7 7.Kd7.
Technically, this means that Pogosyants's study is anticipated by the Johannessen-Rivera game. But I doubt he was aware of this game, so instead of grumbling about anticipations, I will pretend that it happened the other way around, and look at it as a rare case of a study happening in an OTB game. | | (2) Posted by Sarah Hornecker [Friday, Aug 19, 2016 22:34] | Sorry, but while there surely is an optical similarity, the motivation of Pogo's move is different. If the bishop was removed from the board, Black would also have to play Kb7 by zugzwang, so 2.Bb7+ is a correction move.
(2.B~ wins; 2.Ba8/Bc6/Bd5/Be4/Bf3/Bg2? stalemates; 2.Bb7+! wins) | | No more posts |
