Client for CPDB server At http://www.softdecc.com/pdb/whatsnew.pdb is reported that exist a standalone client of this server. I tried it, but can't run, becouse obtain a FoxPro error: "Visual FoxPro cannot start. Could not load resource."
Do anyone know how i can resolve this problem?
P.S. as i understand, application use FoxPro v.5, "googling" get some obscure results for me. :-/ |

I think the reason is the installation package does not contain one of the Visual Foxpro 5.0a runtime dll-file: VFP5ENU.DLL version 5.0.0.402.
The best solution would be to ask the author to include this dll into the installation.
As a workaround I can advise to download VFP 5.0 runtime library, for example, here (I have found so far only newer build 415):
http://wburo.narod.ru/vfp_dll.zip
And then to copy both files from this archive (VFP500.DLL and VFP5ENU.DLL) into the program folder (before you can rename or backup existing VFP500.DLL build 402).
Or, you can download full VFP 5.0 runtime library (build 415) from here:
ftp://ftp.prolib.de/public/VFP5SP1RT.EXE
ftp://ftp.prolib.de/public/VFP5SP1RT.W02
ftp://ftp.prolib.de/public/VFP5SP1RT.W03
and install it. |

Just allow PDB client to download reference tables from the PDB web site.
You also will be prompted to update the client program to version 4.04. |

You may try to delete subfolders 'data', 'settings','tmp' with all their contents (or move them to another place) and then run PDB.EXE.
It should create them again.
Another advice: in case you receive at first the error message "Collating sequence 'GENERAL' is not found" you need to edit one line in the file CONFIG.FPW:
it should be
CODEPAGE = 1252
instead of
CODEPAGE = AUTO |

It would be nice to have protocol specs, not just the client for one OS. |

QUOTE not just the client for one OS
Actually, i have managed to run it under linux with wine:
msiexec /i pdb.msi
cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/pdb && unzip vfp_dll.zip (have to download it first via Mikalai's link)
wine pbd.exe
Then it seems to upgrade itself and download the database files just fine. I hope this helps. |
