I search for a certain castling problem that should be available on the internet, too (I think I've seen it somewhere some weeks ago). I don't remember the author, sadly.
It was a mate in 8 moves where the same position occurs thrice but each time black has lost a right to castle. The key is either 1.Qg5 or 1.Qc7 if I remember correctly. There's a try where the black king is mated in 9. It is mentioned in Tim Krabbé's book, too. (note: it also could be 7 and 8 respectively)
wKa1 Bb1 bKe8 Ra8 Rh8 Pd7 (b6?)
That's what I remember of the position. At a certain point the Bb1 moves, then ...Rh1+ x.Bb1 Rh8 follows.
You can send other castling problems, too. I'm always interested in it but this one is one of my favourites. I think it won a prize in "Problem".
The name of the composer sounded east european and I believe it had three syllables. (It may have been Nenad Petrović) | | (2) Posted by Zalmen Kornin [Sunday, May 6, 2007 08:10] | Hello, Sigfried :) - voilà, I believe that this is the Problem You search http://www.softdecc.com/pdb/comment1.pdb?P=P1012540&expression=A%3D%27Petrovic%27&start=200&langt=EN&langn=EN sorry for not setting the diagram now - I'm en passant here :) | | (3) Posted by Sarah Hornecker [Sunday, May 6, 2007 11:36]; edited by Sarah Hornecker [07-05-06] | Yes, that's what I was looking for. Many thanks! :-)
Wow, I was wrong on the key and try but when I woke up now I remembered the Ng5. Luckily you was faster. | | (4) Posted by Zalmen Kornin [Sunday, May 6, 2007 18:04] | :) It was the high hours in the dark (2 or 3 AM) here, and I was literally sleepy like a marmot, after trying to play an Al-Shatrandj Game on-line in ludoteka.com (where the Game is called 'Chaturanga'), with a glass of argentinian red wine at reach (lol)
Siegfried, as I can remember, Petrovic's #8 provoked some discussions in his days, because a doubt aroused about if the playing rules would allow the solution to run without that Black could claim a three-fold repetition (I can not remember exactly if the point was that an interpretation about the loss of the right to Castle was in the center - Yes, it seems that in 1959 some doubts about this point still persisted) The story was alredy been told, as You said.
I liked Your article's title, "Searching for a Castle Problem", this recalls of a thread that I tryed to start in the other forum, involving following classic:

"This one is one of the undisputed classics, there're other examples of the 'half-invisible castles' theme, or even the COMPLETELLY INVISIBLE CASTLES (but not in KBP, just in retractor)"
There I called the above idea 'SUNYER-THEME', and asked about more examples, not in Proof Game form, but in some kind of Retractor
PS: a tempo the diagram for Petrovic's Problem :)
