Rare stipulations Just for curiosity, I searched the PDB for the stipulation
"castling". Not much there, most ser-00 with fairy conditions.
(James did one direct ortho 00 :-)
I wonder if "e.p." was ever a stipulation in the directmover genre.
(Maybe ser-e.p. with neutrals? :-) Other fairies do exist, Annan
seems to be a favorite). A 1st test:
(= 6+3 )
e.p. in 4, 2 sol.
Clearly the white move before e.p. must be checking. (Clarification:
if the side e.p.-ing is not specified, this works both ways:
forcing a pawn doublestep or forcing capture of a checking pawn,
but in the latter case, stalemate also works as reason) |

I used it in a problem:
Problemas 2013
(= 10+10 )
-1 & 1.bxa6 e.p.
Solution: -1.Rb8xQc8#! (-1.Ra8xQc8#?) & the en passant capture becomes possible. |

Joost made their ser-h-ep 76 subsequently to my ser-h-ep 57: https://juliasfairies.com/problems/no-1640/

@Joost: I already expected that (more solutions than intended) and didn't
even bother to check :-)
@everybody else: THX for the input. BTW, evidently Bd2 in
the vintage problem is only ZZ if ep (or ep with #) is the
stipulation, since Bb4# is the threat. |

@James:
(= 8+9 )
Remember, also a *black* ep may be forced ;-) This matrix does not work *yet*: Black plays h2 when a pawn is on a5. Feel free to repair :-) |
