King corner to corner march
I'm sure I've seen a corner-to-nearest-corner march even in a study.
I tried to show a diagonal march (Schwalbe 1987, K7/8/p6p/p1p4p/8/2N1B2B/P2PP2P/4k3)
but it was hopelessly kaput. Never tried a proper repair (the first attempt
was kaput as well; 9# is way beyond my PC, I estimate a week check time,
and I don't have Gustav).
Can someone check +sPe4 or even +sPe4 +sPe5 (minus 1 pawn tempo anywhere)
or get this nuisance correct otherwise?
Has a diagonal march ever been shown before? (Orthodox, of course.) Later I did one,
but the motivation is just wK racing against bP to get zugzwang, so not exactly
hold-your-breath material. (Lüneburg 1990, K7/6p1/7P/4N3/8/npp5/rkp5/bbn5)

@Dmitri and Marcos: THX. There, the motivation obviously also is that the
standing place must be freed (for the mating piece - in my example for
to hide from a check) and that the king afterwards has to run for cover.
Quite a construction feat, but I like my motivation more (it's a bit
more hidden), so I'd *really* would like to see a correction of my
first attempt :-)

Hauke, your initial position from 1987 is even kaput in 8:
1.Bf4 Kf2 2.e4 Kf3 3.Le3 ~ 4.-7.e8Q,R,B and 8.#
With an additional bPe4 only 1.Kb7 solves, but with a lot of variations, most of them (possibly all) with duals.

So the strict diagonal march with nontrivial motivation
still is out of reach...

I fear that the impressive concept of P1402334 is cooked.
Let's take the position after move 3:
1.Rb8 h3 2.Kg1 Bc5 3.Kf1 Bb6
 (= 11+11 )
Now 4.f4! threatens that the wK goes up. If Black plays like in original solution, then follows
4.- Bc5 5.Kf2 Bb6 (5.- B:e3 6.K:e3 is hopeless) and now #12 according to Gustav: 6.Kf3 h4 7.f5 a5 8.Kf4 a4 9.Kf3 Bc5 10.Rb1 B:e3 11.K:e3 Sb6 12.Kf2 Sd7 13.S:d7 Kg8 14.Rg1+ Kf7 15.Rg7+ Ke8 16.h7 and 17.h8Q# with many variations (output is 380 pages ...).
So Black has to play 4.- B:e3 and therefore opens the b-line. Now 5.Rb4! (6.Re4 ~ 7.Re8#) Se7 (best move) 6.Re4 Bd4 7.R:d4 Sg8 (best move) 8.S:g8 K:g8 9.f5!! Sc8 (the King needs help) 10.Re4 Sb6 11.Re8+ Kh7 12.f6 Kg6 13.Rg8+ Kh7 14.f7 Sd7 15.Kf2 K:h6 16.Ke3 Kh7 17.Kf4 Kh6 18.Ke4 Sf8 19.Kf5 a5 20.R:f8 Kg7 21.Ke6 K:f8 22.Kf6 a4 23.e3 h4 24.e4 c6 25.d:c6 d5 26.c7 dxe4 27.c8=Q# (based on the analysis by The Huntsman 1 by Peter Martan)
