SuperProblem 2014 TT-103 - 3rd Prize by C. G. S. Narayanan Today the award of TT-103 tournament has been published. Mr. Narayanan won the 3rd Prize with an excellent problem:
C. G. S. Narayanan
SuperProblem 2014 TT-103
3rd Prize
(= 7+7 )
#2 7+7
1...S~ 2.Be4#
1...f3 2.e4#
1...B~ 2.Qe4#
1.Se4! zz
1...S~ 2.Qxf6#
1...f3 2.Sg3#
1...B~ 2.Sd6#
Great problem with only 14 pieces. However I noticed that it's possible to save two pieces by slightly modifying position:
(= 7+5 )
#2 7+5
Besides bringing this problem to Meredith form this position does contain one additional try with additional change:
1.Sg3? zz
1...B~ 2.Se4#
1...d5!
It's unbelievable that it's possible to save 2 men in such economical position.
By the way you should check award. There is a great 1st Prize winner by Dragan (4 changed mates). |

Great improvement. Pity Narayanan missed it ! (I should say that I too missed it because Narayanan showed it to me before sending it !) |
