With a knight at c3 or g3 you have the longest black homebase without any pawn moves (ser-s#11 C+)

Why not Sb1/Sh1 for a ser-s#12?

Really an interesting idea, many thanks to James!

Other related challenges, that come in mind:

Longest ser-s= with black Homebase?
Longest ser-h# with black Homebase?

Ah yes, overlooked that Sb1/h1 can reach e5 in 3 moves, but Sb3/g3 can't in 2.

@Joost(32), sorry but I did not understand this cook Kh5? I checked my ser-h#8 with Gustav and it shows C+! Are you referring to some other problem?

Yes, was an attempt at ser-h#9 which was horribly cooked.

(= 5+16 )

ser-h#9 (C+)

By adding one dummy WPd4 I managed to achieve 9 moves.

Not sure why my post has been published twice. Since I do not have an option to remove post I'll just delete this second diagram.

@Frank: ser# now :-)

(= 2+16 )

ser#10
This is a random test position. 4 solutions were found using 10s
testing time on my trust old Zuse, so this should be manageable...
(Kg5 Pg6 *almost* works, #8 2sol. Maybe more material.)

EDIT:
(= 3+16 )

ser#4, 2 solutions
(giggling madly)
