This has certain appeal -- it encourages feedback of others (always welcomed!) -- but also certain drawbacks.
If the article is to contain original problems (and add to that, some originals may not be your own), there is no assurance mechanism that the originals would be published (and thereby, may become ineligable to compete for awards in Mat Plus -- and perhaps elsewhere?!).
Should the originals just be published on Mat Plus, and referenced in the article?
Suppose the article is to contain several genres -- must the writer then synchronize with all the editors?
A few other questions:
1.Is there a limit on the length of a post?
2.Is there a limit on the number of diagrams per post?
I frankly would prefer an up or down from an article editor -- is there such a person for Mat Plus?
Thanks,
Kevin Begley. | | (2) Posted by Sarah Hornecker [Tuesday, Aug 12, 2008 04:52]; edited by Sarah Hornecker [08-08-12] | As far as I know, articles should be sent to Milan Velimirović and the proofreader is Colin Sydenham. I have no involvement in proofreading myself but wrote a few articles, in MatPlus code and sent via note.
I don't know how it should be sent - I did via note in MatPlus code (as said above), but maybe other possibilities exist (e.g. via mail as Word document or whatever). They'll have to edit anyway but I think, sending in MatPlus code reduces the work. An official statement would be appreciated.
A nice thing is the grid boards, by the way, for which I'd like to have an explanation in the help on diagram entries. There is one only when creating diagram files but not for forum text.
Best,
Siegfried
PS: Posting originals in the forum counts as publication so you should refrain from doing so unless you don't mind. | | (3) Posted by Kevin Begley [Tuesday, Aug 12, 2008 11:23] | Thanks Siegfried -- I very much appreciate the info...
I'm writing an article for another journal at the moment, but it keeps growing in new directions, and may need to split (maybe into 2, or 3 articles!).
New ideas keep flooding in, which lead to new originals, and the article spins off in unimagined directions...
Just when you think you have a good inventory of what you're trying to present, the entire landscape changes under your feet.
I am not complaining -- it's better than writer's block (perhaps the cure?).
I may actually start writing articles to myself...
-Kevin | | (4) Posted by Eric Huber [Tuesday, Aug 12, 2008 22:12] | My answer isn't 100% official but, from my experience of Mat Plus editor, I can say that you should send your article to the Mat Plus section editor. Anyway, if you send it to Milan, he'll redirect it to that person for evaluation.
Mat Plus is looking for articles about fairy problems. If, as I suspect, you're writing about something (even deliriously) fairy, you can send it to me hubereric at yahoo.fr and I shall be simply delighted to read it. And Milan, later, to publish it :-)
As for the format: Word or text is OK, note with Mat Plus code is also OK. Don't worry about that.
@ Siegfried : are you referring to the page "HELP ON PROBLEM ENTRY", which is full of diagrams with odd-looking grids, including Loyd's cat ? | | (5) Posted by Sarah Hornecker [Tuesday, Aug 12, 2008 22:24]; edited by Sarah Hornecker [08-08-12] | @Eric Huber:
I refer to http://www.matplus.net/pub/diaghelp.php (missing help) and http://www.matplus.net/pub/n3help.php#pos (having the help).
Best,
Siegfried
PS: Personally I'd prefer a red grid since black is hard to see due to missing contrast. Please let's stop the off topic talk here. | | No more posts |
