Peter-
please forgive my ignorance. I'm looking at the 1st of two problems Lacny gave in his lecture and I couldn't completely understand your excellent translation due to the level of noise. Some questions:
1.what is composer, date and award of this problem?
2.unprovided check in set, and try and key take a flight to show I believe, the Odessa theme?
3.did Ludo care for this problem?
4.did Pachman make Ludo feel uncomfortable about crowded positions or did Ludo dismiss this?
best,
Eugene

eugene,
thanks for you interest!

1. ludovit lacny is author of the problems, they were shown as originals at the marianka lecture.
have a look at the festival bulletin:
http://festival.soks.sk/bulletin-marianka-2014/
or download:
https://www.scribd.com/doc/254662778/Bulletin-Marianka-2014
on pp43-44 you will find the diagrams.

2. yes.
unprovided check only in LL01. this has been corrected in LL02.
flight taking keys remained.

3. not at all.

4. ludo is always laughing when someone speaks about "crowded" (or contrary "airy") positions.
completely out of importance for him.

" ludo is always laughing when someone speaks about "crowded" (or contrary "airy") positions.
completely out of importance for him."
Indeed they are superficial elements, like pawnless position. Content should be sole criterion for judging problems.

Added later:

Perhaps I was generalising too much. As some of my friends point out, the physical appearance of a problem also appeals to many, especially solvers, who are also an important reason for the existence of our community !
