Quartz online

Hi,
The well known Quartz magazine is now visible online at http://quartz.chessproblems.ca. The last issue has three judgments.
I have to thank Cornel Pacurar for hosting. Have fun!
Paul

Many thanks!

Is it possible for you to make a single PDF instead of multiple files?

I have created single PDF files for the issues 36/2011 and 37/2012.

If Paul does not mind, I can upload them and post the links here.

Please, one question about the 11th TT: Glasgow chess with promotions of pawns on the 7th/2th rank is often extended to Glasgow Circe, where the also rebirth squares are shifted to 6th&7th/3rd&2nd ranks. I think, if pawn promotions are thorn into mix, this would be clearly in line with tourney demand. But what about Glasgow Circe problems where no promotions actually occur?

Definition of Glasgow Chess: Pawns are promotes on their seventh (white) or second (black) rank instead of the eight or first.

The tourney has two sections:
a) fairy problems;
b) retro problems.
In both sections, combinations with other genres, fairy units, are allowed, but Vielväterstellung problems are not allowed.

So, to answer to your questions:
1. The Glasgow version with promotions on 6th / 3rd ranks are not accepted.
2. Problems with no promotions are accepted.

Juraj doesn't ask for promotions on the 6th rank, but for shifted rebirth squares (e.g. the black queen is reborn on d7, not d8).

Yes. If white promotes on seventh rank, where does a captured white fairy piece reappear? 7th or 8th rank?

In Popeye, I know two ways where GlasgowChess can affect a game even if the game has no promotion:
- In Circe GlasgowChess, captured fairy pieces reappear on their 7th rank.
- In Sentinelles GlasgowChess, sentinels appear on non-promotion ranks, so on ranks 1,3,4,5,6,8.

I've copied both of these behaviors in Jacobi.

I think that Juraj Lörinc is talking about something which doesn't exist in Popeye, but if it were it would be called "Circe Glasgow" (with traditional name "GlasgowCirce").

This feels a lot like the difference between Circe EinsteinChess and Circe Einstein. Technically, Circe Einstein isn't an extension of EinsteinChess, so keeping the same logic, I don't think that Circe Glasgow would be an extension of GlasgowChess. "Circe Glasgow" is a Circe variant and the only power of Circe variants is to modify the rebirth process; promotions would still occur on the 8th rank. To get both effects one would need to combine Circe Glasgow with GlasgowChess.
