Popeye 4.51 released

The Popeye team is happy to announce Popeye 4.51, available on http://sourceforge.net/projects/popeye-chess/ .

As always, feedback is very welcome; please use the appropriate "Tracker" on http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=200122 .

Many more stipulations (new command sstipulation), many bug fixes and a bunch of new conditions and pieces. See Release Notes and Changelog on sourceforge.net for details.

Many thanks for this Thomas. What is the URL of the release notes and change log (I couldn't find them)?

They have this symbol: https://s.fsdn.com/sf/images/images/icons/silk/paste_plain.png

E.g. click on the green Download area, and you can see one, in the column "Notes".

The readme files (py-(deut|engl|fran).txt) are missing several things (at least the new spiralknights and quintessence are missing, perhaps more), and still mention 4.4 in the title.

And for those interesting in living on the edge, I have published new CVS binaries (4.52) on my site.

Does there exist a Linux version?

I can provide a binary compiled on a Fedora-10 machine, if anyone wants it. But usually you just compile it yourself (download sources, make -f makefile.unx and you get a py binary).

Off-topic: Is one Linux distribution same for all Linux or is when you compile on Fedora 10 only possible to use there and not i.e. on Suse, Ubuntu and however they are all called?

PS: Fedora 11 is released on June 9, Wikipedia says.

It *may* work if, say, you're talking about two PC desktops, but to achieve the best performance it is generally advised that you compile the binaries on the host machine. If you want to run popeye on a linux device where building from the sources may be somewhat tricky (e.g. on a Wifi router) you may try to build it on your other linux machine by specifying different target architecture. Distribution (Fedora, Suse, Ubuntu etc) you use doesn't have a lot to do with it, ability to run the binaries is generally determined by the architecture (eg Intel x86, PowerPC etc) and versions of the dynamically loaded libraries (popeye is quite modest about these and uses only the very common ones).

Simply download and unpack the sources. The command

% make -f makefile.unx

will make you one.
