Young Jedis, much you have learn to about economics. :-)

Any good that A sells freely for X$ and B buys for X$
makes by definition a square deal; B being an uninformed
twit has no relevance to the foundations of economic theory...

Of course, it could be b), problem chess is addictive and
thus follows the rules of drug economy where the seller
dictates the prices :-)

In recent Chess Notes, Winter has made note of the ridiculous prices asked for some chess books (thousands of dollars, as this one). I have found discussion of this on a few fora - it is happening with all kinds of books - but no one seems to have the answer. One individual suggested it was a legal way to sell drugs through the mail. Beyond that conspiracy theory I wonder if there might be some reason for a seller to hyperinflate the value of his inventory items by listing them at ridiculous prices.

Another related issue are the many books which are simply print-outs from the pdfs generated by Anders Thulin and others. They are usually print on demand books, and I did buy one because it would have cost about as much to print it and put it in a decent notebook. Those books are not rip-offs per se but just a little pricier than they should be.

For a possible explanation of inflated book prices, see

So, underneath these insane prices is actually a "Price Fixing" algorithm.
Fascinating!

Funny how the cost of labor has no comparable mechanism (except in the opposite direction).
I wonder how much the regulators paid for their copy of "My Pet Goat."

Thank you Anders. A strange method of pricing indeed.
