PDB acquired by Schwalbe?

Some interesting changes on PDB: http://www.softdecc.com/pdb/index.pdb

There is a major change in name/layout.
Functionally, only the animation arrows seem to have changed (now replaced by stepping through the solution directly).
[caution: this change does not seem to work for many fairy elements (which used to be animated), and otherwise requires some patience.]

Schwalbe president Hans Gruber comments:
 QUOTE

In English like this (my translation might not be completely accurate):
Die Schwalbe [..] whose central objective [..] consists of the promotion/funding of chess composition, regards the support of all necessary work on a noncommercial, publically accessible, digitalised chess problem collection as one of its most important purposes next to the publication of new compositions. For this reason it readily converts the in a remarkable initiative of Gerd Wilts created and always updated and extended PDB into an officially by the Schwalbe supported activity and thereby take responsibility for its material and ideational continuity. For his willingness to further develop the PDB perpetually on a voluntary base, in the name of all Schwalbe members I thank him explicitly and heartily.

Seems like a good move! I wonder if any forum readers might be willing to translate the entire "Preface" into English? Would be nice to have that posted on the PDB home page as well.

@Dan,

The Goggle Chrome web-browser provides a fairly good auto-translation.
Also, you can try: http://translate.google.com/

With all due respect to the PDB developers, this new feature is extremely annoying. If you make the mistake and move your mouse pointer to the solution text, you are trapped in an endless loop where the moves play one after the other automatically and even if you click somewhere else, the focus remains on the solution text and the initial diagram is of course screwed up. Unless I miss something obvious, this is a nightmare. Imho, the animation arrows were much better.

The ability to view new problems with a click also seems to be lost. I used to use this often to find new problems to proof, but now this is more difficult.

I see animation buttons have returned, and one can now view new problems "since yesterday" with a click. But that really needs to be increased to "since last week" and "last four weeks" since "since yesterday" doesn't extend far enough back.

Click after "Since today" at "home", the query-inputbox appears

CREATIONDATE>=20110917

and you can change the date easily.

Yes, I know that Olaf, but it is still simpler to access everything with just one click. I already knew how to access other dates using that command. But others might not.

Restoring the "play-through" buttons for each problem is a good thing.

One more suggestion: for general search results, make each Pnnnnnnn reference a link to that specific problem, as if the user had entered the criteria PROBID='Pnnnnnnn'. And, in the link-text, use the %27 string rather than literal single-quotes ('), like this...

http://www.softdecc.com/pdb/search.pdb?expression=PROBID=%27P0556267%27

... rather than this...

http://www.softdecc.com/pdb/search.pdb?expression=PROBID='P0556267'

... since the latter form can cause problems for some browsers.

As is seen at the problem you linked, the replay mode sadly doesn't always work fine with pinned pieces.

No, the move is given unprecisely, it should be 1.Sec3.

While the notation is fixed now, the replay is not...

EDIT: You're right, at some point I disabled deleting data (like the Cache) on closing of Firefox because I was afraid it'd delete the Flash cookies. It all works fine now.
