Michael, about the comparison on topic: the lightness and elegance of Your version are preferable, I don't miss the second model.

**BTW, just for the record: Christer could spare a white Pawn in this way (but renouncing to the mirror mate.)

I also agree that position without model mates is better. However even position with a model mates could have been lighter:
