Would anyone with a knowledge of Latvian players/composers contact me regarding individuals with the above name?
It appears to me that, unless this is a very common name, there was a chess-playing/composing family with this name. Again they may have been German-speaking and I believe at least one later emigrated to Germany.
I found that Nimzo had used one of Giese's games (which one?) as an example, and Gaige was helpful in identifying some tournaments some family members had played in. There is a nice problem by one of the Gize's in Breuer that could probably be repaired.
