Does somebody know what's happen with 8th ECSC composing tourney - selfmate section, because the file with award into the site can not be open...

The helpmate preliminary award is open.
The top two problems are very interesting showing e.p captures as set play and same mating move (but not e.p) appearing later in the solution.
I have a question: It is proved by retroanalysis that Black's last move was the double step of the pawn and therefore the set mate by e.p. capture. When this is the case, how can solution start with a black move ? After all it is only white's turn of play now !! Can we say that the solution(s) are illegal ?
Since I am not an expert, I am confused. Is it a case of "Having the cake and eating it too ?" or Retroanalysis when convenient ?

The point is in the consideration whose move it is. It is not possible to prove that any of sides has made the last move.
IF it is White to move, THEN the last move was pawn double-step and set play works.
But IF Black begins, THEN the solution must run differently. And indeed in both position there are last white moves possible - e.g. d4-d5 in No. 1, many easily seen in No. 2.

Michael, the case of Pervakov seems to be different. As he told me, he had recognized both these endgames. On his paper he wrote the names of the authors, and nothing else.

Does anyone have the studies used in the study-solving competition? (If not, could you post them Georgy? At least the ones used in the preliminary round.) I thought the study-solving was an excellent event and I would like to arrange similar events. I think it would help to make chess solving more popular with OTB players. The studies chosen had just the right level of difficulty and I'd like to show them to people who weren't at Kiev to illustrate the difficulty level needed.

Results:
9 points - 3 people,
8 points - 3 people,
7 points - 2 people,
and more than 10 people with 6 points who did not make it into the final...
