Fivefold repetition :-)

This is another free-for-all construction task. In one of my Hamburg ch games,
I nearly had twice the capture Sb6xRa8. Anyway, lets stick to moves that can't be
repeated infinitely often.

Without promotions, you can easily have Pd4xPe5 fivefold (bcdef pawns for White,
cdefg for Black, 6 captures to get them there). You can have some promotion sevenfold,
and a capture R/S x R/S even tenfold. Since R should be faster, anyone taking the job to
construct a SPG where wRd8xsRd1 (or whatnot) is played ten times? (It's possible without
a problem, since you just have to jettison all S and B to get the P running.)

I think it will be impossible to force 8 rook promotions in a proof game if none of the promoted rooks should be present on the diagram. (leave alone having them all captured them on the same square.).

Clarification: I didn't ask for a *unique* SPG, just for a record attempt.

So basically, the shortest possible game that involves 10 identical moves, e.g. wRd8xbRd1?

Yup. I guess fairly similar things (especially the part with
getting the pawns free fastest) have been done, so a first
attempt should be easy.

d7 Qb6 41. d8=R Qxd8 42. Rh8 Qb6 43. Rd8 Qxd8 44. Ra8 Qb6 45. Rd8 Qxd8

Ten times bQb6xwRd8. I think this must be the fastest possible: 40 pawn moves leading to 8 promotions, 1 extra move for the most distant pawn (all 8 cannot reach the same square, since it would require 16 captures), 2 moves for Ra1 and 2 moves for Rh1.

Or did you mean both players should promote all their pawns and exchange all the rooks?

No, technically you cheated :-) but I simply didn't think about
that only the massacred site has to promote to provide a constant
stream of victims, so your attempt is absolutely legit.
THX!

If you want both sides to promote, the task could be to achieve the same capture 19 times, ignoring colours. For example, Rd8xRd1 19 times, 10 by White and 9 by Black (or vice versa).
