I composed a few problems for the challenge. Probably the award can never be finished?! Can I publish my problems in other magazines?

Dear Ralf,
Please wait with the publication, it may hurt the other participants who sent similar positions!
All entries for the PAPE TT are saved, but without the names of the authors. Are there any suggestions how to conclude this TT? Are there any members willing to act as the judges?

I'm not 100% sure if I DIDN'T participate but at least neither I
remember doing so nor is there any matching diagram in my problem folder.
Since this is a very "classic" theme, some judge with a "classic" taste
would be appropriate. I.e., I volunteer.
Of course, this will mean blood, sweat and tears for the "modern" letter
fans, especially since I tend to rip their constructions to shreds and
save half of the material (Marjan, as a GM you are probably safe from
my economizing amok runs :-) But, anyone else can volunteer either...

@ Marjan

Is there a possibility to organize a 'public' judgement ? (As for the Costachel TT)

Yes, Jacques, this looks possible. I believe you have experience with it, and you may get an idea how to judge so many examples. Perhaps an introductory phase may serve to shorten the list? Of course, this time we may not use Mat Plus for sending the reports. There should be sent to a private address.
Is there maybe some volunteer among MP members to serve as the director, collecting all the awards?
It would be good to hear voices of some participants of the PAPE TT. There is also possibility to avoid the award, and to publish all the received entries on the Mat Plus website to save the time. However, we have to find out the names!
In any case, we need some more elaborated ideas about the destiny of the tourney, and some volunteers to share the work.

There were 157 entries submitted for the tourney, as any participant can see in the "make award" section of this site. I have collected them all in a single PDF document. I participated with 35 entries (different loci) that kept me quite entertained last August (I have already sent my own entries to Marjan). I volunteer to prepare a file with all the entries classified by loci, etc. The problem is, of course, how to match the entries with the names of the composers, something which cannot be done from this site. Once this has been done, then all the entries could be judged and published following the lines written by Milan.

I guess that the only possible way to proceed is to ask the composers to send again their same entries to a new director, who can match them with the list I have. After this has been advertised, and after a reasonable amount of time, the unmatched entries would have to be treated as anonymous. Some composers may have lost/forgotten their entries, but in any case they should be able to check them all in this site, if they did introduce at least one. Maybe then they can remember which their entries were, and if no one else claimed authorship for those same diagrams, everything would be fine.

More ideas?

Composers can simply forward their original entries to the new Director. While doing so, they should be asked to identify the number of the problem in "Make Award" section. It should not be difficult to prepare a named list of problems.

Thanks Joaquim, for all you did, and for the good explanation and proposals!
Seetharaman made a very practical proposal for sending only the numbers, not the problems again.
Now we need someone willing to receive the e-mails and create the list. There doesn't seem to be too much work. As I see it, this could be one of the participants. This doesn't seem to be illegal, and assures a motivation to see the award on time. Or, am I wrong? Any opinions and volunteers?

I would be willing to play the role of new director if no one in this forum objected. But if there are more volunteers, even better. The way I see it is the following:

(1) A new announcement asking for the same entries to be submitted again must be made. This has to be widely advertised, at least in this site, and elsewhere if possible. Enough time should be given to the composers to send in the entries (or their number for that matter) to the director. The problem with the numbers is that some composers sent their entries to Milan by email and then it was him who introduced the diagrams in this site (I am certain that this happened in some cases.)

(2) In the same announcement the judging process, if any, should be explicitly described. The fact that after the new deadline all unmatched entries would be treated as anonymous should be also explicitly agreed.

(3) After the new deadline, the director sends the problems to the judge(s). The award could be written in the form of the article that Milan was planning for Mat Plus. In my opinion, this was not a tourney in the normal sense, so giving prizes should not be the most important point here. Once I have organized the material I could pass the new booklet to a capable person who could made some comments so as to present all the material in article format (and act as Milan wrote he would do).

In summary, leaving aside the judging process (and any decision in this regard), if we can reach agreement here about all these points above, I am willing to receive the emails from the authors and organize all the material so as to make the judging process (or writing the new article) as easy as possible.

Thank you Joaquim, you did everything you could to assure a good beginning!
The most important goal seems to be to publish all the entries with the names of the authors, perhaps on this website first.
Could we hear the voices of other participants: award or article?

I submitted fourteen problems for this tourney, and would be keen to see it resolved. I don't mind if there's an award, or simply an article with everyone's entries.

I emailed my compositions directly to Milan, so please let me know to whom I resend them, if necessary.

Thanks Linden!
Good news we already know almost the third part of entries (35+14), and a bad news that other participants haven't expressed their opinions yet.
Ralf and others, please give us your views! We have the generous offer by Joaquim to collect all the names and make the list, but we need confirmations (and suggestions if any) by at least majority of participants.

I submitted 48 problems. Thanks to Joaquim. In my eyes he can be a new director. I would be glad to see all the problems published in an article. An award isn't so important for me.

We decoded majority of entries: 97 out of 157.

Alright then, I propose the following calendar, again waiting to see if there is any objection in this forum.

(1) In July 7, the new announcement will be published in this site. I will circulate the new announcement beforehand by email, among those who have already expressed their opinion in this thread, to seek agreement. In any case, first of all I'd like to hear opinions in this forum on the convenience (or not) to publish the unmatched originals as anonymous, as once this has been done, authorship cannot be claimed any longer.

(2) November 3, new deadline for submission of the same originals (only) that had been sent to Milan (or introduced in this site).

(3) December 1, I will send all the diagrams matched to their authors (loci, FEN, solution, number of thematic captures, etc.) to anyone willing to write some critical comments to the entries (and to all of those who contributed with an entry). If we agree that unmatched diagrams can be published, I'll also include them in the new document.

(4) The article (or summer challenge award) is published in 2014.

I'll do all the copy/paste work, but we should also include the name(s) of the final reviewers who will comment on some of the entries in the announcement.

Any volunteer?

Actually, Make Award facility of this Forum still accepts analytical and critical comments. I think contributors can make their comments here itself in the anonymous format. This way, there may not be the need to send the collection to willing commentators.

On second thoughts, I think commenting after the problems are rearranged in terms of the "focii-system proposed by Milan" might be more relevant.

Now that the site is back, I'll post the "new announcement" on Sunday.
Although the information can be reprinted elsewhere, everything would have been much more difficult without matPlus.net. I'll now stick to the calendar that I had suggested.
