1. Main plan: 1.e4+ fxe3
2. Obstacle: Bxf3
3. Safeguarding plan aims at stopping B attacking R: 1.Bh1! and threat is 2.Qa1 bxc6 3.Rb2 … 7.Rg2+.
4. After 1.Bh1! bxc6 2.Qa1? we have the second (new) obstacle: Q stalemates bK. It is removed by keeping-busy (tempo) plan: 2.Qa7-3.Qa1+
5. So, it’s a problem with nested foreplans (type II problem).
6. Old-school term "relativ zweckrein" is used for problems with obstacles in parallel (type I problems).
Clear solution, pure aims. |

Great problem. Great story. Not quite sure I agree about Roxette, though. |

This marvelous problem sounds rather like Dire Straits while Gamnitzer's masterpieces have the Zappa sound. Maybe I'm a synesthete or even wrong. |

I think that Gamnitzer's masterpieces are not a historical German school, but an original Austrian school. This will soon be published in the journal Chess composition. |

Are the awards of other Die Schwalbe informal tourneys available on their website? I would be very interested to see awards of fairy tourneys, for example. |
