In essence, it akin to the Berlin Theme except is check and not checkmate with the thematic content consisting of line blocking/play.

Strictly speaking, the "pure" Berlin theme means that in actual solution Black execute the same check (that was a mate initially, after a try in diagram position). See the definition from "Encyclopedia...":
"A try fails because Black can mate. A foreplan transforms this mate into a simple check".
But in TT-259 theme, after foreplan, the check is impossible principially.

The examples show an interception of the rear piece of the black battery, is it mandatory ? or and interception of the front piece is also possible ?

Interception of neither rear nor front piece is mandatory. The move to a thematic "activation line" (battery line - in a particular case) is mandatory.

But first of all, threemovers with the theme will be mostly very simple or even primitive.
And secondly, as everyone knows, the judge is moremover composer - so I didn’t turn my tongue to offer him #3-N instead #4-N :))

I reckon a #3 with three main plans and three thematic check lines would be nowhere near primitive, but to each his own.
