b) By the number of distinctions
If there are multiple sections(#2, #3, h#, etc), each section counted as a separate tourney.

I remember a similar discussion some years ago, may be here or in rebnora.com. There was cited a problem tourney with more than 500 entries (duplex h#?).

What Frank mentioned was probably the Ero Bonsdorf JT 1971, for h#2 duplex miniatures. I remeber Serbian chess composer Zivko Milovanovic composed around 300 examples, and my job was to look for (very frequent) cooks.

The number of entries in Eero Bonsdorff 50 JT was 606 (!). More than 200 were however incorrect and 66 black/white-symmetric.
