The archive ("a few small sacks") was recovered about 25 years ago by Marian Stere - from Pauly's old house in Bucharest, shortly before it was demolished by the communist regime to make room for the architectural monstrosity which, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, is the world's largest civilian administrative building, most expensive administrative building, and heaviest building - The Palace of the Parliament (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palace_of_the_Parliament).
A few more details can be found at http://www.kb.nl/galerie/stijl/095pauly-en.html. The two books mentioned there are, of course, "Zo sprak Wolfgang Pauly : een bloemlezing van zijn schaakproblemen", Meindert Niemeijer, Wassenaar, 1948 (http://opc4.kb.nl/DB=1/PPN?PPN=081916485), and the "bible" "Wolfgang Pauly : Challenge of a Legacy / Provocarea unei mosteniri", Marian Stere, Bucharest, 2001 (http://opc4.kb.nl/DB=1/SET=1/TTL=32/LNG=EN/SHW?FRST=32). The latter also contains 1919 - 1933 correspondence between Pauly and Dawson.
In this context, does anyone have more information about the following:
- "Letters to Wolfgang Pauly", 1920 (?!) - http://books.google.ca/books?id=u2OJNwAACAAJ
- "Correspondence received by Wolfgang Pauly", 1916 (?!) - http://books.google.ca/books?id=TTRVkgAACAAJ
- "Pauly's rough-copy book of letters", 1918/1920/1921/1922/1928/1930 (?!) - http://books.google.ca/books?id=3QndQQAACAAJ | | No more posts |
