| | (1) Posted by Juraj Lörinc [Saturday, Sep 13, 2014 11:24] | Some Top 10 Recently I was doing various selections of chess problems of all genres for various purposes. E.g. we had recently another year of Marianka, I've made some judging and also selections for CCM. Anyway, by chance I've got an idea to have look at the most successful composers in terms of received distinctions, as recorded in big WinChloe database. It is by far not complete, yet it already gives fair picture of who is who in the widest possible sense.
So I have selected four "Top 10", namely in terms of recorded problems awarded with Prizes, Honourable Mentions, Commendations and Places. Not surprisingly, the lists are full of GMs, very prolific composers and composer producing high quality works over long time periods. Nevertheless, a few facts may be interesting and perhaps surprising. So before presenting lists (later this weekend, if nothing bad happens), I have a few questions for those who like guessing. Of course, if you repeat selecting in the db, you might have precise answers, but just for fun... try your knowledge or luck.
Question 1: There is only one composer present in all four Top 10 lists - Top 10 Prizes, Top 10 Honourable Mentions, Top 10 Commendations, Top 10 Places. Who is it?
Question 2: There are 3 composers present only in the Top 10 Prizes, but not in other Top 10. Who are they? (For me it is an underlining of the fact, that these people produce the highest quality problems, not just good, they are not satisfied where more can be gained from idea or scheme.)
Question 3: Which two Top 10 lists of four of share the most names? (In loose words, which two types of awards are the closest to each other?) | | (2) Posted by Frank Richter [Saturday, Sep 13, 2014 11:41]; edited by Frank Richter [14-09-13] | My suggestions:
Q1: Petkov
Q2: Vukcevic, Rehm, Loshinski
Q3: Hon. Mentions and Commendations
(May be at least one is correct ...) | | (3) Posted by Sarah Hornecker [Saturday, Sep 13, 2014 14:06] | Q1: Kubbel
Q2: Loshinski, Velimirović, (maybe Rudenko?)
Q3: Prizes and commendations | | (4) Posted by Juraj Lörinc [Sunday, Sep 14, 2014 23:41] | Here are the above mentioned Top 10 lists as described in the first post.

Question 1: Actually I was mistaken, when I wrote there is just one composer present in all four Top 10 lists. There are two: Zivko Janevski & Dieter Muller.
Question 2: 3 composers only in the Top 10 Prizes are: Viktor Chepizhny, Hans Peter Rehm and Michail Marandyuk. Top level names undoubtedly.
Question 3: Not surprisingly (at least for me), the largest intersection (in terms of cardinality) is the intersection of Honourable Mentions and Commendations. | | (5) Posted by seetharaman kalyan [Monday, Sep 15, 2014 07:16] | Thanks for the interesting lists ! | | (6) Posted by Neal Turner [Tuesday, Sep 16, 2014 12:39] | What about a top ten of those who's problems should have been awarded but weren't.
