I didn't want it in phases though, but in a single sequence. To my shock, there was nigh none. I only found two I knew of aleady-Popov's double Valladao problem (P1254435-http://superproblem.ru/archive/probl/N/Popov-11-2012.gif) and the lesser known double Valladao by Kostylev (P1377964-http://superproblem.ru/archive/probl/N/Kostylev-8x-2015.gif).
Thankfully, Andrew was able to find a third and only other one that luckily came in minimum form.
Valery Frigin, Die Schwalbe 1974, #4-P1287898
(= 8+10 )
The only flaw with this one is that there is a promotion dual. Andrew and I managed a Meredith with another matrix I found on chess.com.--https://www.chess.com/forum/view/more-puzzles/mate-in-5-a-black-triplet?page=1
JM and Andrew Buchanan, #4
(= 8+4 )
1. b4! axb3ep+ 2. Bxb3 e1=N+ 3. Kb1 0-0-0 4. Rc7#
The only setback here is that the castling isn't forced, although is made up for by the presence of only themetic Black units. It is a given that always one of three themeatic moves will never be fully forced, but the castling and a unique promotion should be IMO, leaving en passant as a Black defense on the last move.
Frigin's problem is nearly perfect in that sense-it just a non-dualed promotion, so I set out to make a problem using his ideas. After quite some work, I imperfectly managed it.
After Frigin, #4
(= 10+9 )
1. Qxh7 hxg1=N+ 2. Nxg1 O-O-O 3. d4 exd3 4. Bb7#
The forced castling and unique promotion (alwyas a knight) are present with an en passant defense as planned. If a decent key can be managed, the theme of a "perfect" Black Valladao in a full sequence will be done.
Who knows of more such problems? | | (2) Posted by Hauke Reddmann [Sunday, Jul 19, 2020 10:34] | Rewan, you should define "forced". "All other moves lead to a faster mate"?
As you can't force castling in the sense of *only* move, obviously. | | (3) Posted by James Malcom [Sunday, Jul 19, 2020 17:45]; edited by James Malcom [20-07-19] | That's exactly what I meant Hauke. "Forced" as in the only move, or else Black will be mated faster. | | (4) Posted by ichai [Sunday, Jul 19, 2020 20:11] | Anatoly Styopochkin

white + black Valladao | | (6) Posted by James Malcom [Sunday, Jul 19, 2020 22:22]; edited by James Malcom [20-07-20] | Many thanks for the #6 and #7 ichai-they are amazing masterpieces! Good idea to give a diagram to Popov's problem that I shared.
Here is the second known directmate Double Valladao that is also linked above.

EDIT-On chess.com. Arisktotle managed a decent key, so that miniature quest is now complete-https://www.chess.com/forum/view/more-puzzles/mate-in-5-a-black-triplet?page=2#last_comment

already done? (Technically, all, since double Valladao - gasp -
but you know what I mean.) | | (8) Posted by Jacques Rotenberg [Monday, Mar 21, 2022 21:38] | A black Valladao in 2#
