There is a Holladay book here, not sure whether it's what you're looking for:

Well... that is a collection of Holladay's problems. The book Alexander wants is an anthology of US problems. I think it is available for download. Paper copy might be available from "The Problemist". |

I have it in PDF if you're interested. A quite representative collection, therefore expect the quality to be varying. Unfortunately there are no comments at all on the content of the problems. |

Thanks. A PDF would be nice, while I continue to search for a paper copy. (This forum doesn't allow private messages, does it? If you're on ChessProblem.net, you could pm it to me or e-mail it to me via that forum.)
Much appreciated,
Alex. |

You can find private messages at "Notes" but they allow no attachments, as opposed to your forum. |

Alexander, I uploaded the PDF to a file host. I sent a PM (aka note) to you with the download link. |

you can try to contact David L. Brown, as he was the publisher. He may still have some copies. He resides in Rockford, Illinois, but I do not have a contact email or phone |

I've got a query about two prominent American composers - Shinkman & Wurzburg.
We have the collection of Shinkman's problems "The Golden Argosy" (1929) containing 600 examples and then there's Edgar Holladay's compilation "Wurzburg Artistry" (1974) with 200 problems.
However it seems that Shinkman's output consisted of something like 3000 problems and Wurzburg is said to have composed as many as 1200 examples.
So I'm wondering what happened to those problems which didn't make it into the anthologies.
Does anybody have them?
Is there any plan to publish them?
It would certainly be a shame if the bulk of the problems by two of America's (and the World's!) foremost composers were to disappear. |

Holladay Chess Problems: The Life & Chess Problems of the American Composer Edgar Holladay
I am looking for this book. Does anyone have an affordable copy left?
(Sorry, Neal, I have no clue about your inquiry!) |
