Pendulum movement of bishop

Just coming from the Die Schwalbe main page - http://www.dieschwalbe.de/

Fadil Abdurahmanović
1st Prize Die Schwalbe 2010
Kc1 Bf1 - Ke4 Qh2 Rh1 Bb3 Sa5 Pa2 a3 c3 d7 f7 g5 h5 (2+12)h#6 (2+12)

1.Be6 Kd1 2.Qe5 Ke2 3.Kf5+ Kf3 4.Bb3 Bc4 5.f6 Bg8 6.Be6 Bh7#

The judge Hans Gruber praises the cooperation of bishops, especially the fact, that manoeuvre Be6-b3/Bf1-c4-g8/Bb3-e6 is preceded by another Bb3-e6.

The problem has instantly reminded me about another helpmate that I have actively solved 20 years ago as beginner:

Markus Manhart & Franz Pachl
3rd Prize Pat a Mat 1991-92
Kc1 Bc8 Sd7 Pe4 g2 h4 - Ke6 Ba8 Pb5 c3 d3 g6 (6+6)h#4 (6+6)

1.Bxe4 g3 2.Ba8 Bb7 3.Kf5 Bg2 4.Be4 Bh3#

Of course, motivation of capture needed to clear line for wB is much, much easier than precise determination of arrival square of move Bb3-e6 by movement of wK.

I'm reminded of this one:

Josip Pernaric
The Problemist March 1994

Kh1 Ba1 f1 Ph2 - Ke6 Qe1 Rd1 h5 Bf7 g5 Sd5 h8 Pb5 c7 d2 d6 e2 e3 f2 h3 (4+16)
Helpmate in 4½

.... Bxh8
1.Ra1 Bxa1
2.Rh8 Bxh8
3.Qa1 Bxa1
4.Be7 Bxh3

Simple, but memorable!

Of course This Rehm classic is one of the 50 top helpmates selected by Ebert and Gruber for their wonderful book. That book is of course a must for any helpmate lover. Kindly made available by Ebert for free download at http://www.hilmar-ebert.de/
