| | | (1) Posted by Siegfried Hornecker [Tuesday, May 1, 2007 11:43]; edited by Siegfried Hornecker [07-05-23] | Competitions with money prizes Ok, I hope this list won't be illegal in serbian law. I included Euros only but you can feel free to add anything you know of.
I extracted these from Ján Golha's wonderful list http://www.goja.sk/p9a.htm which is my primary (and only) source for tourney announcements. It is a respectable work of Mr. Golha to find and add those tourneys. Dear Mr. Golha, if you read this I hope you won't mind this extraction!
Since I (and many other composers) are in the need of money (it doesn't hit me as hard as other ones if I have none, luckily) we all should recognize Ernest Pogosyants who was the only study composer that was a professional composer regarding money. I know, in some countries 750 Euros (the prize offered on Corus ty) is nine months of living (in Ukrain, I think), so I think it's just good to have a list with all tourneys where money can be won.
Ok, I talk too much, sorry. Here's the list (note: from top to bottom closing date goes from now to future in each section; sorry for bad english rhetorics).

Theme Tourney of www.magyarsakkszerzok.com

h3# - Theme: In the solutions of these twin problems, White always gives mate from the sguare to which Black moves in his first move in the other variant (if there 2 twin diagrams) or in another variant (if there are more than 2 twin diagrams). Battery mates are permitted. It is advantageous if the pairs of squares repeat only cyclically. Zero position are not allowed.

All kinds of compositions allowed
300 Euros total (and book prizes)
Jubilee tourney Frank Fiedler - 50
In recognition of the 50th Birthday of Frank Fiedler (10.18.1957) a composition tourney for chess puzzles and chess problems of all kinds is being held - these compositions should be as accessible and entertaining as possible for a promotion of problem chess. The submissions should be of a type that shows an interesting beginning position, and encourages solving, as well as showing a surprising solu-tion. The theme is open, including fairy chess, as much as it can be appealing to a general chess public.
To determine this a judging team of the celebrant and five over-the-board players of differing strengths (One titled player or Elo/DWZ >= 2300, then one player each from the ranges of 2299-2000, 1999-1700, 1699-1400 und < 1400), who all have an understanding and interest in problem chess (for example, as solvers), but have never composed a problem themselves.
The judges will make their evaluations separate from each other and the evaluations they make will be independent of their ability to solve the problems, giving each a score of 4 to 0. The best problems by total points will be placed in the categories of "Prize", "Honorable Mention", and "Commended." The celebrant will of course, in cooperation with the tournament director, search for anticipations and other flaws, placing them as appropriate. The tournament director is:
Mirko Degenkolbe, PF 11 12, D-08393 Meerane, Germany
Pontius_Pilatus@T-Online.de
Entries should be received by October 18 2007 at the latest. For the best ex-amples, the celebrant has provided a prizefund of 300 Euro in the form of cash and book prizes.
As a gift for participation, all competitors will be sent a brochure that includes the award and about 100 selected compositions of the celebrant. Any problems not selected are returned to the authors for any use they see fit.
Closing date: 18.10.2007
(examples can be found at http://www.goja.sk/p9a.htm#Fiedler50 and I strongly suggest you to see it even if you don't want to participate. These problems are very nice.)
